An armed homeowner helped the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Hollywood Park police apprehend a man for allegedly stealing a vehicle Saturday afternoon in Northern Bexar County.
Authorities received a call at about 10:04 a.m. for a theft in progress at the 7800 block of E. Evans Road after the victim reported that his car was stolen. He told dispatchers that he offered a ride to the suspect just before the carjacking. It is believed that the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Chad Courtney, tried to run over the victim's leg while driving away, but authorities could not confirm.
Officials located the vehicle at an apartment complex an hour later. Courtney fled the scene until a homeowner found him running in the backyard. The armed homeowner, licensed to have a gun, kept Courtney in place until police arrested the suspect.
The relationship between the victim and Courtney is unknown, officials said. Courtney has been arrested and charged with felony theft of vehicle.
The Bexar County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case for further details.
