A Friday morning shooting at Rodeway Inn has been determined to be self-defense, according to Jackson police. Deputy Chief Tyreece Miller said officers found a man in room 114 with a gunshot wound after a shooting was reported around 8:40 a.m. Miller said the man, who has not been named, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he remained Friday afternoon. His injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening. In a news release, police identified the shooter as a 29-year-old man. The suspect told police that a 48-year-old man attempted to enter his motel room with a handgun. The 29-year-old also had a handgun and shot the man. Evidence at the scene supported the 29-year-old's statement to police, the release says. The shooter will not be charged and the investigation is ongoing.
