A 70-year-old man who walks using a cane was at home in Tijeras, N.M. when an intruder broke into the house. The home invader attacked the elderly man with a hockey stick and a piece of bamboo. The elderly man responded to the attack by retrieving a .38-caliber handgun and shooting his assailant, killing him.
The elderly man’s neighbors were supportive of his actions, with one telling a local media outlet, “Good for him. That’s awesome that he was able to think that fast and he was able to protect himself.” Another neighbor added, “Thank god that he’s armed and you know, most of us up here are. I hope people see this is not a good place to come for sure.” (KRQE, Albuquerque, N.M. 09/09/16)
