New Hampshire: Constitutional Carry Expected to be Voted on in Committee This Week

This week, the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee is expected to vote on Senate Bill 116, NRA-backed constitutional (permitless) carry legislation.  It is critical that you contact members of the committee immediately in support of this crucial right to carry reform.

SB 116, sponsored by Senator Jeb Bradley (R-3), would repeal the existing law requiring a person to have a concealed firearm license in order to carry concealed, while leaving the current permitting system in place for those who wish to participate in reciprocal concealed carry permit agreements when traveling to other states.  It would also increase the length of time a license to carry is valid and direct the State Police to enter into a reciprocity agreements with other states to recognize their licenses.

In New Hampshire, existing state law recognizes the right of any citizen who can legally own/possess a firearm to carry it openly, either loaded or unloaded, anywhere in the state.  Since law-abiding citizens can carry a firearm openly without a permit, they should not become criminals just because they put on a jacket or place their firearm in their purse or briefcase.  Law-abiding citizens do not suddenly turn into violent criminals just because they choose to conceal their firearm. 

Your urgent action is needed in support of the bill!  Please use the information provided below to contact members of the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee today and urge them to vote in support of Senate Bill 116.
