West Virginia: Martinsburg Making Changes to its Gun Laws

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Tomorrow, April 10, at 6:30 p.m., the Martinsburg City Council plans to meet and address two specific changes related to its local gun control ordinances.

Thanks to the passage this year of Senate Bill 317, sponsored by state Senator John Unger (D-16), and it being signed into law by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin (D) almost two weeks ago, Martinsburg must now remedy its conflicting municipal codes.

The two areas of conflicting code are related to the now legal carry by concealed deadly weapons license (CDWL) holders in recreation facilities and buildings owned by the city but being operated by private businesses.  Current Martinsburg code bans the legal carry in both of these types of facilities, but under the new law, legal carry by CDWL holders is now lawful and allowed.

The details for the city council meeting tomorrow are:

Thursday, April 10
Begins at 6:30 pm
J. Oakley Seibert Council Chambers
City Hall
232 North Queen Street
Martinsburg, West Virginia

Please attend this very important meeting, and let members of the city council know that you support changes to comply with SB 317.  If you cannot attend, you can contact city council members by calling 304-264-2131, ext 277.
