Iowa: Suppressor Bill Receives Senate Subcommittee Assignment But Needs Your Immediate Support to Get a Hearing

Thursday, March 6, 2014

With Deadlines Approaching Next Week, There are Only Days Left for HF 2381 to Receive Consideration by Senate Subcommittee and Committee

Last week, on the heels of powerful grassroots support, the Iowa House of Representatives passed House File 2381, legislation to legalize suppressor ownership and use with overwhelming bipartisan support.  Despite this action, HF 2381 is in jeopardy of not receiving a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by state Senator Robert Hogg (D-33), as reported earlier this week.

However, before it can be heard and voted on in the Senate Judiciary Committee, HF 2381 must first be heard by a subcommittee.  At this time, HF 2381 has been assigned to a subcommittee but no hearing has been scheduled, and time is now running out.  HF 2381 needs your strong support to move through this subcommittee, that will be led by state Senator Thomas Courtney (D-44).

Even pro-gun legislation with the strongest bipartisan support has failed to pass in the state Senate in recent years, having repeatedly died in committee.  Your NRA-ILA has been diligently working with state Senators to ensure this trend does not continue, and that HF 2381 receives the fair hearing  and vote a bill with such support deserves.  Your e-mails will make the difference!  Contact Senator Courtney and members of the Senate subcommittee IMMEDIATELY to ensure this bill gets a hearing in time for it to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee -- before the deadline for consideration passes next week!
