Idaho: House State Affairs Committee Hearing on Secure Campuses Bill Friday

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

Contact members of this key committee TODAY in support of Senate Bill 1254

Senate Bill 1254, an important NRA-backed self-defense bill, is scheduled for a hearing in the House State Affairs Committee this Friday, February 28, at 8:30 a.m. in room EW40 of the state Capitol.  As previously reported, SB 1254, introduced by state Senator Curt McKenzie (R-13), would permit qualified retired law enforcement officers and law-abiding adults who have obtained an Idaho “enhanced” concealed carry license to possess a firearm on public college or university campuses.  However, this legislation would provide universities discretion to prohibit qualifying individuals from carrying within a student dormitory or residence hall and a public entertainment or sporting facility with a seating capacity of more than 1,000 persons.  The specific provisions of SB 1254 ensure that responsible, law-abiding individuals with enhanced training are able to carry a firearm for self-defense while on a public college or university campus.

SB 1254 is an essential step toward protecting students and faculty on campus, and the NRA fully supports this legislation.  Using the contact information provided below, please call AND e-mail members of the House State Affairs Committee and urge them to support SB 1254 this Friday.  The House State Affairs Committee has expressed a willingness to accommodate as many people as possible who would like to speak on this bill.  It is imperative that you attend this committee hearing, if able, and speak in support of this important self-defense bill. Information on how to testify can be found here.

Don't forget to forward this alert to your family, friends and fellow gun owners throughout Idaho and urge them to do the same.  Support Senate Bill 1254 today!
