Delaware: Senate to Vote on Anti-Gun “Buy Back” Program Today

Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Today, the Delaware Senate will vote on legislation that gives away your hard-earned tax dollars to police and community groups to implement a gun “buy-back” program – misnamed since we did not buy our firearms from the government.

Senate Bill 204, sponsored by state Senator Robert Marshall (D-3), seeks to create and fund the "Community Firearm Recovery Program."  Senate Bill 204 was reported by the state Senate Finance Committee on June 7.

Gun buy-backs across the country have proven to be a complete failure and waste of taxpayer dollars. The average person who voluntarily surrenders a firearm to police is not a criminal and the firearms surrendered are not those misused by criminals. Senate Bill 204 lacks fiscal accountability and opens the door to potential misappropriation of funds, while in no way deterring or reducing violent crime.

It is not the proper role of government to get or be in the gun (collection) business.

Please contact your state Senator IMMEDIATELY and respectfully urge him or her oppose and vote against Senate Bill 204.  To locate your state Senator and his or her contact information, please here.
