Mississippi: Urgent Committee Action Needed for Pro-Hunting Legislation in Jackson

Monday, February 28, 2011

The Senate Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee has until tomorrow, March 1, to act on House Bill 1121 or it will die for the remainder of this legislative session. It is important that you contact committee members today, urge them to take action and report this important pro-hunting bill out of Committee in its current form as passed by the House before tomorrow’s deadline.

House Bill 1121 would extend the archery deer season from October 1 through January 31.  This legislation would increase hunting opportunities for archery hunters and allow for the continued proper management of Mississippi’s deer population. Hunters have always been true conservationists.

HB 1121 has already been passed overwhelmingly in the House but still needs Senate approval, something that will not happen should it remain in the Senate Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Committee past tomorrow’s deadline.  It is critical that you contact the committee members listed below and respectfully urge them to report this legislation out of committee in its current form as passed by the House on February 8.
