The City Council voted 7-0 in favor of the law Wednesday, giving gun owners 72 hours to file a police report after discovering their gun lost or stolen. Owners who don't file a report will be fined $500 for the first offense; subsequent violations can result in a $1,000 fine, up to 90 days in jail, or both. "Its clear that this ordinance as well as other ordinances that have been passed over last year violate (state) law, so it's disappointing to see Erie move in that direction," said John Hohenwarter, legislative liaison for the NRA.
