Senate Bill 1214, introduced by State Senator Karen Johnson (R-18), would allow Right-to-Carry permit holders to carry a firearm for self-defense on public university or college campus grounds. SB1214 is on Third Reading in the Senate, but has not been scheduled at this time. This bill has received a lot of attention statewide and the vote margin promises to be close, which is why it is vital that NRA members continue to contact their State Senators and encourage them to support SB1214 when it comes before them for the final Senate vote.
In the House, three bills are currently on Third Reading awaiting a final vote during Thursday's floor session. House Bill 2630, introduced by State Representative Russell Pearce (R-18), is an NRA supported measure that reduces the penalty for carrying a concealed “weapon” without a permit to a petty offense. Also up for a vote are House Bill 2629, which clarifies the meaning of "defensive display of a firearm", and House Bill 2634, which would allow for a person whose civil rights have been restored to obtain a permit to carry a concealed firearm with certain restrictions.
