NRA-ILA and members of the Mississippi State Senate have received a large volume of phone calls from concerned gun owners regarding Senate Bill 2286, introduced by State Senator David Jordan (D-24). SB 2286 would require ammunition manufacturers to engrave a serial number on the base of each bullet and inside the case of each cartridge of ammunition sold in Mississippi. This proposal will significantly increase the cost of ammunition, and it will result in a virtual ammunition ban, since the technology is unworkable and very costly. Possession of unserialized ammunition will be prohibited.
State Senator Gray Tollison (D-9), is Chairman of the Senate Judiciary B Committee, to which SB 2286 has been referred. Chairman Tollison opposes SB 2286 and wants you to know that he will not bring this bill up for consideration in his committee (effectively killing the bill for the session).
The Legislature is hitting full-stride this week, so further contact on this issue is not necessary at this time. If you see Senator Tollison in the District or while visiting Jackson, please make a point to thank him for supporting our Second Amendment rights and helping defeat this onerous proposal! You can also find contact information for Senator Tollison here.
