Plagued with burglaries of his Oakland, Calif., market,
one-armed Will Joseph had been sleeping in a loft at the rear of the
store. He was awakened by the sound of 2 prowlers who had broken
into the store through a rear window. Joseph fired one shot from a
12-ga. shotgun, hitting one burglar. The other fled, but was later
arrested by police.
