Fairfax, Va. – Georgia lawmakers today passed important National Rifle Association (NRA)–backed legislation that will expand the rights of law-abiding gun owners and concealed carry permit holders. House Bill 89 preserves the self-defense rights of law-abiding men and women as they travel to and from work.
“H.B. 89 has been a top legislative priority for the NRA, because it is good public policy for the tens of thousands of law-abiding permit holders in Georgia,” said Chris W. Cox, NRA chief lobbyist. “Right-to-Carry reduces crime, and the citizens of Georgia will be safer in public parking lots, state parks and historical sites as a result of this measure.”
H.B. 89 will:
· Allow licensed carry permit holders to possess a firearm in any private motor vehicle while on any publicly accessible parking lot;
· Prohibit gun dealer entrapment schemes, such as those orchestrated by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg;
· Allow concealed carry permit holders to carry in State Parks, recreational areas and wildlife management areas;
· Create a reduced time limit for various stages of the concealed carry license application process; and
· Allow concealed carry permit holders to carry in restaurants and public transportation.
“This is a very proud day for Georgia gun owners and the NRA,” concluded Cox. “On behalf of the many NRA members in Georgia, I’d like to thank all of those involved who also made it a priority to pass this important legislation.”
