Bloomberg and CNN Pretend Americans Don't Want Guns

We reckon that anti-gunners will do just about anything to try to trick people into thinking that gun sales are tanking and that Americans therefore are ready to support the full array of restrictions envisioned by our "transform the United States of America" president, Barack Obama.

Police Using Data Concerning Lawful Gun Ownership to Ratchet Up Scrutiny, Escalate Tactics

In recent years much progress has been made in protecting the privacy of gun owners by restricting access to gun licensing and right-to-carry permit data, with a majority of states now limiting the availability of this information to law enforcement officers for official use. Unfortunately, two recent incidents have highlighted how government data indicating firearm ownership can be used by law enforcement officials as justification to escalate encounters with gun owners.

Two Anniversaries Gun Control Supporters Aren't Celebrating

Gun control supporters have lately used the 20th anniversary of Bill Clinton's signing of the Brady Act into law as an excuse to repeat their demand for "universal" background checks.  Even though most people who commit crimes with guns defeat the Brady Act by getting their guns by theft, on the black market, or from straw purchasers, anti-gunners have portrayed the law as having saved countless lives. Nevertheless, the gun ban movement is altogether ignoring two other significant anniversaries associated with its efforts.

No Guns on Gun Ban Signs?

When it comes to the anti-gunners' viewpoint, don't be too hasty in thinking that things can't get more ridiculous than they already are, because--as this story illustrates--they most assuredly can.

Move Over Maxim; American Rifleman is In: NRA's Flagship Magazine Enters Nation's Top 25

As reported this week by Advertising Age, American Rifleman--NRA's flagship magazine, and one of three magazines that members have an option of receiving as part of their membership--posted a 29.3% boost in circulation in the second half of last year. That leap, to an average circulation of 2.2 million from 1.7 million, was enough to propel American Rifleman past Maxim magazine into America's top 25 magazines by circulation.

No Surprise Here: NYC Mayor de Blasio Joins MAIG

Recently-sworn-in New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is wasting no time in shoring-up his anti-gun reputation.  As reported this week by the Washington Times, de Blasio announced that he has joined "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" (MAIG)--the national gun ban group founded and funded by anti-gun extremist, and de Blasio's predecessor in the Mayoral Mansion, Michael Bloomberg.

California's Most Ambitious Handgun Ban Now Underway

In 1976, the Brady Campaign, then known as the National Council to Control Handguns, said that the first part of its three-part plan to get handguns and handgun ammunition made "totally illegal" was to "slow down the increasing number of handguns being produced and sold in this country."  This month, anti-gunners finally got that wish in California.

Cuomo says Firearm Advocates, Among Others, "Have No Place in the State of New York"

Last year, anti-gun New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) and the New York State Legislature conspired to circumvent normal legislative procedures in order to enact sweeping and extreme anti-gun laws in the state.  This week, the WashingtonExaminer.com reports that, during a recent interview, Cuomo added insult to injury as he listed pro-gun supporters as part of a group of extremists that "have no place in the state of New York."

Anti-gun Buttinskis Seek to Politicize NYPD's Firearm Procurements

Since reporting on Jersey City, N.J., Mayor Steven Fulop's adoption of a gun control questionnaire for firearms vendors in December, the campaign to leverage municipal firearms contracts to enact civilian firearms restrictions has continued.  Now, the New York City Police Department is in the gun control activists' crosshairs. If successful, the campaign would subject manufacturers bidding to supply the nation's largest police force to eligibility criteria measuring the gun makers' participation in advancing several items of the anti-gun agenda, including "smart gun" technology, microstamping, and the restriction of private firearm transfers.

Hollywood producer and Obama mega fundraiser Harvey Weinstein used an appearance on The Howard Stern Show Wednesday to announce what he billed as a new anti-NRA movie, reportedly titled, The Senator's Wife. During the interview, Weinstein called NRA a "disaster area" and said of the film, "I'm going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we're going to take this head-on. And they're going to wish they weren't alive after I'm done with them."

Another Anti-Gun Mayor Runs Afoul of the Law

We have previously reported on the incongruity of behavior demonstrated by the relatively long list of mayors who are associated with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" organization who have been implicated in illegal behavior.  To that list we can add yet another name--former Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, Mayor James Schiliro.  Ironically, the anti-gun mayor is headed to jail after unlawfully detaining a young man while armed with a gun.

Numerically Challenged Journalist Wages Weak Attack on NRA, Kleck

Nearly a century ago, the great jazz drummer Warren "Baby" Dodds was asked for his opinion of other drummers of his day. Dodds, a perfectionist, but also a gentleman, simply said, "All who are drumming aren't drummers." That brings us to the journalist Michael Allen, who, on Monday, took advantage of the fact that anyone with a computer and an internet connection can write just about anything for the entire online world to see. In this instance, Allen's "reporting" was aimed at the NRA and award-winning Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck.

Chicago's Firearm Transfer Ban Falls to Second Amendment Ruling

Things are looking up for gun owners in Illinois.  On Monday, as some 4,500 concealed carry applications flooded the state's online portal on its first full day of operation, Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Edmond E. Chang of the Northern District of Illinois issued a significant opinion that invalidated Chicago's ban on firearm sales and transfers within the city. The suit was brought by the Illinois Association of Firearms Retailers and three individuals, with the backing of NRA.

Detroit Police Chief Agrees: More Guns, Less Crime

Except among dyed-in-the-wool anti-gun fanatics, it is a commonly accepted fact that Right-to-Carry laws not only do not cause crime to increase, they may deter violent crimes.  It is also firmly established that people who have carry permits are statistically more law-abiding then people who do not.  And the number of RTC states and carry permit holders reached all-time highs as the nation's murder rate fell to nearly an all-time low.

Stopped in 80 Seconds: Armed Response, Not Gun Control, Halted School Rampage

Back in March, we reported on Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper (D) signing into law the most sweeping anti-gun legislation in the history of the Centennial State, despite overwhelming opposition to the legislation.  The new law bans magazines with a capacity of greater than 15 rounds, imposes a "gun tax" for a background check when purchasing a firearm, and criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm, among other things.  The anti-gunners claimed these measures would keep guns out of the hands of bad guys.

From His Warm, Fuzzy Paws: TSA Agent Confiscates Toy Gun from Air-bound Sock Monkey

Well, it's the holiday season, and Americans are taking to the highways, rails, and airspace of our great land to reconnect with friends and loved ones.  This ushers in another, less fortunate, and increasingly common tradition: tales of security screening excess regarding anything even remotely gun-like.  Civil aviation is still relatively safe and functional in this country, and for that, we are grateful.  But when the screening process goes wrong ... boy does it go wrong.

Outrage of the Week: Do as I Say, Not as I Do--NY Elitists Ray Kelly and Mayor Bloomberg Think Their Safety is More Important than Yours

Bloomberg's Weird Thanksgiving Vision

Thanksgiving Day is not until next week, but we're going to get the next item out of the way now.  We realize that normal people, who at other times are "in the fight" regarding the right to keep and bear arms, will want to enjoy the upcoming holiday the traditional way:  gathered together with family and friends, strengthening the ties with people with whom they are closest, giving thanks for the good fortune to live in the greatest country on Earth, and for at least a day or two, trying to abstain from argument and controversy. "Normal people," that is.

Law Professor Calls for Repeal of Second Amendment, Rewriting of Constitution

Brady Campaign to Gun Control Supporters: Listen, Dummies

Last January, National Review Editor Rich Lowry joined a host of others in denouncing Barack Obama's use of elementary school children at a press conference to unveil his gun control agenda, calling the spectacle "stupidly exploitative" and "infantile."  A newly-released ad from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, however, suggests some in the anti-gun community have perversely taken that criticism as a challenge.  With the new ad, the Brady Campaign seems intent on taking the tone of anti-gun arguments from the school yard to the nursery.
