As previously reported, Senate Bill 226, sponsored by state Senator Mike Woodard (D-22), passed unanimously on its second and third reading in the North Carolina House of Representatives on Wednesday. S 226, which repeals a 1935 law that allows gun registration in Durham County, went into effect upon ratification yesterday. Since S 226 is considered a “local” bill, it does not need to be signed into law by Governor Pat McCrory (R) to be enacted.
