Yesterday, a pro-gun amendment to Legislative Bill 699 was adopted unanimously in the Nebraska Legislature. This amendment, offered by state Senator Steve Lathrop (District-12), would repeal an outdated state firearms statute and bring state law into conformity with federal law by allowing Nebraska residents to purchase long guns in non-contiguous states.
This long-overdue legislation will align Nebraska with forty other states that already allow their residents to purchase rifles and shotguns in non-contiguous states, provided that the purchase or transfer complies with state and federal law. Currently, Nebraska residents can only legally purchase long guns in bordering states. LB 699 repeals this outdated restriction, allowing Nebraska residents the freedom to purchase long guns in states beyond their immediate borders.
The vote for final passage of LB 699 will take place later this week. Please contact your state Senator TODAY and urge him or her to SUPPORT LB 699. Please click here to identify your state Senator.
