Colorado: House Committee to Hear Bill to Repeal Restrictions on Rifle and Shotgun Purchases Thursday

Tuesday, March 18, 2014

Senate Bill 135, sponsored by state Senator Greg Brophy (R-1), is scheduled be heard this Thursday in the Colorado House Judiciary Committee.  SB 135 would repeal restrictions in state law relating to the purchase and sale of rifles and shotguns in non-contiguous states, and permit the purchase and sale of firearms in states not bordering Colorado by both residents and non-residents.

This long-overdue legislation will align Colorado with forty other states that already allow their residents to purchase rifles and shotguns in non-contiguous states, provided that the purchase or transfer complies with state and federal law.  Currently, Colorado residents can only legally purchase long guns in bordering states.  It would also allow for the sale of rifles and shotguns to residents of non-contiguous states.  SB 135 repeals this outdated restriction, allowing Colorado residents the freedom to purchase long guns in states beyond their immediate borders.

Using the contact information provided below, please contact members of the House Judiciary Committee and urge them to support SB 135.  You can also call the committee to register your support at (303) 866-5390.
