Colorado: Bill Expanding Concealed Carry Permitting Process Signed Into Law

Friday, March 21, 2014

Last Friday, March 14, Governor John Hickenlooper (D) signed House Bill 1166 into law.  HB 1166, sponsored in the House by state Representative Ed Vigil (D-62) and in the Senate by state Senator Lois Tochtrop (D-24), reforms the concealed carry permitting process by changing current law, which only allows carry permit renewals at the sheriff’s office where issued, to allow renewal of carry permits at any sheriff’s office.  HB 1166 passed unanimously in both chambers of the General Assembly, passing in the state House of Representatives on February 17 and in the state Senate on March 4.  This law took effect immediately.

While we applaud the efforts of the legislature to ease the concealed carry permitting process, this in no way mitigates the egregious assault on your individual rights last year.  Your NRA will continue tirelessly working with state legislators in Denver to attempt to repeal the draconian legislation heaped upon you and will continue to work to advance the rights of shooters and sportsmen in Colorado.
