Your invited to a Fun Shoot fundraiser being held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in North Phoenix on April 12. Founded in 1957, the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, formerly Black Canyon Shooting Range is one of the largest publicly operated shooting facilities in the country and is located on 1650 acres in north Phoenix.
This Fun Shoot is being hosted by Arizona Game and Fish Dept. and Tread Lightly!, a non-profit outdoor ethics education organization, to raise money to help fund projects associated with target shooting in the Sonoran Desert National Monument (SDNM).
As you may be aware, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attempted to close the SDNM to target shooting through its management plan. The NRA played a significant role in actions that lead up to a reversal of that decision.
All involved in support of protecting target shooting in the SDNM are working on a plan to ensure that shooting has a solid future in the monument. The plan includes volunteer site clean ups and the promotion of safe and responsible shooting. The plan is being developed as part of the “Respected Access is Open Access” outdoor ethics education campaign being implemented by Tread Lightly!. The Respected Access campaign was developed by Tread Lightly! in partnership with the NRA and several other hunting and shooting sports organizations.
Please put the date on your calendar and come join fellow hunters and shooters who are working to keep federal public lands open to the public for hunting and target shooting.
