To ensure that the General Assembly understands that Maryland constituents are still taking notes and patiently waiting for Election Day, the NRA-ILA asks that members show up in full force and attend this Senate committee hearing to speak on pending legislation.
For those wishing to testify, twenty copies of your written testimony must be submitted to Committee Staff before 12:00 noon tomorrow. Electronic witness sign-up screens will be located outside the Committee room and sign-up will be available starting at 9:00 a.m. All those wishing to testify must be signed-in before 12:45 p.m. in order to testify during the committee hearing. More information on how to testify can be found here.
Help your NRA show that the Second Amendment isn’t going away in Maryland and neither are the law-abiding gun owners who defend it. Legislation to be considered by the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee includes:
Senate Bill 164, sponsored by state Senator James Brochin (D-42), would prohibit inmates convicted of a violent crime with a firearm from receiving time off of their sentence for good behavior.
Senate Bill 353, sponsored by state Senator Roger Manno (D-19), seeks to extend the prohibition on carrying a firearm for self-defense in a public school to include private schools.
Senate Bill 729, sponsored by state Senator Nancy Jacobs (R-34), would clarify that “self-defense” can qualify as a good and substantial reason when applying for a Maryland Permit to carry.
All bills to be considered tomorrow can be found on the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee’s agenda. Legislation listed will not be debated in order of this agenda, so please make sure to show up and sign-in early.
It is important that you attend the Maryland Senate’s Gun Day tomorrow. We urge you to bring your family, friends and fellow Second Amendment supporters in order to help protect your rights in the Old Line State. If you are unable to attend, please contact committee members and urge them to SUPPORT all legislation that would protect the Second Amendment rights of Maryland gun owners.
