Tomorrow, February 26, House Bill 2412 is scheduled to be heard in the House Appropriations Committee at 2:00 p.m., in HHR 1 of the state Capitol. Introduced by state Representative David Stevens (R-14), HB 2412 would allow a school employee who has been designated and approved by the governing board of a charter school or school district to possess a firearm on school grounds for school safety purposes. This “Optional School Safety Designee Program” will be established by the Attorney General’s office and require annual training coordinated by the Office of the Attorney General and state Department of Public Safety.
This legislation would be a positive step forward in protecting students and faculty across Arizona.
