Colorado: Castle Rock To Vote TONIGHT on Repeal of Open Carry Ban

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Last week, the Castle Rock Town Council voted 4-3 in favor of repealing the current local prohibition on openly carrying a firearm in public buildings and parks.  This vote followed a lengthy hearing, including testimony from individuals both in favor of the repeal and against it.  Castle Rock's ban has been in place since 2003.

Colorado state law permits individuals to carry weapons in public, but local governments retain the ability to ban visible firearms in town-owned and town-operated buildings, parks and open spaces.  Tonight, January 28, the Town Council is scheduled to take its second and final vote on this issue.  If the second vote is favorable, this ban will be repealed and take effect in thirty days.

Meeting Information:
Date: Tonight, January 28
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Address: Town Hall Council Chambers (second floor)
             100 N. Wilcox Street
             Castle Rock, CO 80104

Repealing the ban on open carry in public buildings and parks would be a positive step forward for both Castle Rock and Colorado.  Please attend tonight’s council meeting to voice your support for the repeal of this infringement on your Second Amendment rights.  If you cannot attend, please utilize social media, e-mail or phone calls to encourage town council members to vote favorably on the repeal.
