Please Contact Committee Members to Urge their Support for SB 1743!

After passing in the state Senate last week, Senate Bill 1743 was assigned to the state House Agriculture, Wildlife and Environment Committee.  SB 1743 must receive a committee hearing before going to the floor of the Oklahoma House!  Please contact committee members TODAY and urge each one to support consideration and passage of this important legislation.

SB 1743, known as the “Landowner's Hunting Freedom Act,” is authored by state Senator Steve Russell (R-45) and state Representative Leslie Osborn (R-47).  This important pro-hunting legislation would allow Oklahoma landowners and their guests to use lawfully-possessed suppressors (also referred to as silencers) on firearms for hunting.  SB 1743 received overwhelming approval in the Senate by a 40 to 3 vote.

Currently, more than half of the states across this country allow hunters to use suppressors while hunting and three other states (Arizona, Georgia and Texas) are currently considering similar legislation or changing their hunting regulations to allow their use.  It’s time that hunters in Oklahoma are able to enjoy the same opportunities available to residents in more than half of the country.  For more information on firearms and suppressors, click here.

Please contact members of the state House Agriculture, Wildlife, and Environment Committee TODAY and respectfully urge their consideration and support of SB 1743! Contact information for this committee can be found by clicking here.

  • Suppressor Basics

Suppressors are gaining popularity among shooters both in and out of the tactical realm. The increased interest in these useful accouterments should come as no surprise. Whether we are talking about boots, performance wear or guns, gear coveted by our nation’s warfighters tends to be popular in the commercial market.

  • Suppressors-Good for Our Hearing . . . and The Shooting Sports

Sound suppressors attached to firearms (less accurately called "silencers" in federal law) are an additional tool available to help protect our hearing and are quickly gaining in popularity throughout the country. Although few may realize it, suppressors are not a new innovation. The Maxim Silencer Company opened its doors more than a century ago. Teddy Roosevelt is reported to have used one on his Winchester Model 94 at his Long Island home in order to avoid disturbing his neighbors while dispatching varmints.
