Hawaii: Important NRA Instructor Liability Bill to be Heard

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Please contact members of the House Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee Today!

House Bill 679, introduced by state Representative Ken Ito (D-48) and six other Representatives, is an NRA-supported bill that would exempt National Rifle Association certified firearms instructors from liability for injury or damage caused by discharge of their firearms while providing training required to obtain a permit to acquire firearms.

This bill is currently slated to be heard in the state House Public Safety and Military Affairs (PBM) Committee this Thursday, February 16, at 9:00 a.m. in conference room 309 of the State Capitol.

This is an important measure for not only NRA-certified instructors, but also Hawaii gun owners in that once liability protection is established, it will open the door for those seeking to gain instructor status and create more opportunities for gun owners to meet the training standards.

Please contact members of the House PBM Committee and respectfully urge them to support HB 679.  Also, if you can, please attend the hearing and show your support for this important measure. Contact information for the House Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee can be found below.

Please note: The deadline for bills assigned to two policy committees (double referral bills) to make it out of their first committee is Friday, February 17.   We will provide you with a report of the gun-related bills that have progressed once this deadline has past.
