Public Support Needed for Shooting Range in Sauk Prairie Recreation Area--A shooting range is one of many uses being considered for the Sauk Prairie Recreation Area, located in Sauk County, in the southwestern part of the state. The 7,354-acre property was formerly the site of the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is developing a master plan for managing public use of 3,800 acres of this property and believes that a shooting range is compatible with other outdoor activities. However, to make the range a reality, the Department needs to receive public support for this idea. In addition, the Department is inviting suggestion as to what shooters would like to see in a range; i.e. rifle, trap, skeet, etc. The Department is looking at this property not only as a site for a premier public shooting facility, but one that can accommodate hunter education and the "Learn to Hunt" programs.Comments should be directed to:Diane M. Public land is becoming increasingly hard to find for the development of new shooting facilities and an opportunity like this does not come along very often. Please take a few minutes to submit comments in support of the shooting range by email or post.
