In today’s society, the use of traditional ammunition (lead ammunition) is constantly under attack. Senate Bill 6209, sponsored by state Senator Mark Schoesler (R-9) and eight other state Senators, would limit the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Commission’s ability to restrict the use of lead ammunition. This bill specifically states:
“… the commission may only prohibit the use or possession of ammunition due to lead content where the commission finds that the prohibition is necessary and narrowly tailored to address significant and substantiated impacts to one or more wildlife populations.”
SB 6209 is a response to the overreaching prohibition that the WDFW Commission imposed on the use of lead shot for all hunting on the state’s pheasant release sites. To read our previous alerts on this issue, please click here.
This bill has been referred to the state Senate Energy, Natural Resources & Marine Waters Committee, but has not yet been scheduled for a hearing.
