Illinois Gun Owners: Make Your Voice Heard in Springfield on Tuesday, March 11!
Monday, March 3, 2008
Anti-gun radicals like Chicago Mayor Richard Daley (D) are poised to strike and we must not sit idle and allow them trample our Second Amendment rights.
Mayor Daily himself has promoted efforts to ban countless semi-automatic firearms, .50 cal. rifles, and ammunition (House Bill 4357 and Senate Bill 1912), implement a limit on the number of handguns an individual may lawfully purchase (House Bill 4393), and require ammunition serialization/encoding (House Bill’s 4259, 4269, and 4349), just to name a few of the proposals. Daley's anti-gun assault will also include mandatory storage (House Bill 731), firearm dealer licensing (House Bill 4541 and Senate Bill 1919), a virtual ban on the private transfer of firearms (House Bill 758 and Senate Bill 2280), and a ban on magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds (House Bill 5169, as well as a provision of HB 4357 and SB 1912). This will likely be only the start of Daley's anti-gun shopping list.
Don’t forget Senate Bill 1007, which would ban the manufacture, possession, delivery, sale, and purchase of standard capacity ammunition magazines capable of holding more than ten (10) cartridges. This bill is worded so broadly that it would also ban certain firearms, such as some Henry rifles, which have attached tubular magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds of ammunition. This lever-action rifle, whose design dates back to the 1860s, could be prohibited under SB 1007, making this bill far more than a bad magazine ban.
The day will begin at 12:00 p.m. with a rally at the Hilton Hotel’s Grand Ballroom located at 700 East Adams Street. At 1:30 p.m., the activities will move to the State Capitol where gun owners can lobby their legislators. Later that day, a reception for attendees and legislators will be held across the street at the State Library from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Charter buses will be driving attendees to Springfield from all over the state.
