Senate Bill 237, introduced by Senators John Lee (D-1) and Warren Hardy (R-12), would allow Nevada to negotiate Right-to-Carry reciprocity agreements with states whose training standards match Nevada's, passed out of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and is now facing a vote in the full Assembly. Previous bills allowing for reciprocity have NEVER made it to the Assembly floor, which is why it is vital that NRA members contact their Assemblymember and ask them to support SB 237 when it comes before them for a vote.
Senate Bill 92, also introduced by Senator Lee, is on the Assembly floor awaiting a vote. SB 92 would amend the state firearms preemption statute that mandates immediate handgun registration for any firearm owner who enters Clark County by extending it to sixty days. While this measure has been amended from its original intent to eliminate registration altogether, this is a HUGE step in the right direction for Nevada gun owners!
Please contact your Assemblymember today and ask for their AYE vote on SB 237 and SB 92. Contact information, as well as the text of both bills can be found at www.leg.state.nv.us and don't forget to register your opinion at the Legislature's Home Page under “Public Opinion Poll.”
NRA is also happy to report that Assembly Bill 95 championed by Assemblywoman Valerie Weber (R-5), the Emergency Powers Firearms Protection Act, is now on its way to the desk of Governor Jim Gibbons (R) who has indicated he will sign the bill. AB 95 would restrict government entities from confiscating firearms during a declared state of emergency, such as occurred following Hurricane Katrina. Thank you for all of your hard work and support on behalf of this very important issue!
