Indianapolis-Marion County, Indiana City-County Council to Take-Up Firearms Discharge Ban!

Wednesday, May 16, 2007

Please Attend the Rules and Public Policy Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 22!

On Tuesday, May 22, the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council Rules and Public Policy Committee will consider Proposal 174. This onerous measure will effectively prohibit the discharge of firearms within the City-County limits.  Rather than focusing on enforcing existing state law to address the reckless and illegal discharge of firearms, the Council is poised to punish law-abiding gun owners for the acts of irresponsible gun owners.

Please make plans to attend the Rules and Public Policy Committee hearing on Tuesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 260 of the City-County Building, 50 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis.

Regardless of whether or not you plan on attending Tuesday's hearing, please contact your Councilor and the four "at-large" Councilors listed below, and strongly encourage them to oppose any changes to he current City-County ordinances regarding the discharge of firearms. Be sure to remind the Committee members that Indiana state law already provides the necessary tools to address illegal and reckless firearms use, and the Council should first make an effort to enforce these laws before considering any proposal that places restrictions on law-abiding gun owners!
