Tennessee: Pro-Hunting Bill Approved by Senate Committee; House Bill Scheduled for Committee Hearing

Friday, February 21, 2014

On Wednesday, Senate Bill 1777 was approved unanimously in the Tennessee Senate Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and referred to the Senate Calendar Committee.  Sponsored by state Senator Mike Bell (R-9), SB 1777 would amend Tennessee’s current hunter harassment laws by prohibiting anti-hunting radicals from using drones to interfere with those lawfully hunting or fishing.  When in the field, safety is a sportsman’s primary concern.  The use of drones by anti-hunting extremists, with the express intention of spooking wildlife or catching a hunter off-guard, is extremely dangerous and could potentially result in injury.

The House companion to SB 1777, House Bill 1952, sponsored by state Representative Judd Matheny (R-47), is scheduled for consideration by the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Wednesday, February 26 at 1:30 p.m., in House Hearing Room 29 (HHR 29) of the state Capitol.

It is important that you call and e-mail members of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee and respectfully urge them to vote “YES” on HB 1952.  Contact information for committee members is provided below.
