This week, state Senator Philip Moran (R-Hancock, Harrison Cos.) introduced Senate Bill 2425, legislation creating a sales tax holiday in the Magnolia State during the first full weekend in September for individual sales of firearms, ammunition, most hunting supplies and certain recreational fishing equipment.
Encouraging more Mississippians to get into the field or out on the water could increase the amount of Pittman-Robertson and Dingell-Johnson funds the state Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks receives from the federal government for game and hatchery management, habitat conservation, hunter education, shooting range construction, fishing site access and fishery surveys.
Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves (R) applauded the filing of this legislation and stated, "We want to encourage Mississippians to buy from Mississippi retailers when purchasing some of our state's most popular items -- those associated with outdoor activities. I am in full support of Sen. Moran's effort to cut taxes for those Mississippians who enjoy the outdoors."
This measure has been referred to the Senate Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. Please contact committee members and urge them to support Senate Bill 2425.
