On Tuesday, May 24 at 1 p.m. in the west conference room of the Wallace Building, the Iowa Natural Resources Commission will meet to discuss the rules for the recently proposed mourning dove hunting season. The Wallace Building is located at 502 E. 9th Street in Des Moines. At this time the commission is currently accepting public comment and your input is needed to make sure that this new season is established to allow hunters sustainable and abundant opportunities.
Under the rules currently proposed by the Natural Resources Commission, the season would begin on September 1 and last for 70 days. There would be a daily bag limit of 15 birds, with a possession limit of 30 mourning doves. This season does not include the Eurasian collard doves or white wing doves.
After Senate File 464 was signed into law by Governor Terry Branstad, the Hawkeye State became the 41st state to allow for a dove hunting season. As this season is being established it is important that hunters, as true conservationists, make their voices heard. Doves are the most popular and abundant game bird hunted in America and it is finally time for a hunting season in Iowa.
Please contact the Iowa natural Resources Commission and help them in their efforts to establish the best possible mourning dove season.
