The Joint Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee has scheduled a firearm legislation Work Session this Friday, April 15 at 9:00 a.m. in room 436 State House.  This Work Session will determine the fate of critical firearm legislation for this legislative session.  Listed below are the bills that the NRA is supporting and opposing.

SUPPORTING

LD 35, introduced by state Representative Richard Cebra (R-Naples), would prohibit an employer from allowing an employee with a valid concealed firearms permit from keeping a firearm in the employee's vehicle as long as the vehicle is locked and the firearm is not visible.

LD 932, introduced by state Representative Dale Crafts (R-Lisbon), would allow a person with a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm to carry a concealed firearm in the state House.

LD 1232, introduced by state Representative Aaron Libby (R-Waterboro), would allow a person who is legally allowed to own and possess a firearm to carry concealed without having a concealed carry permit.

LD 1347, introduced by state Representative Cebra, An Act Relating to Locations where Concealed Weapons May Be Carried, would eliminate the prohibition on concealed carry permit holders carrying a concealed firearm in state parks and historic sites, premises licensed for the consumption of alcohol, state property under the jurisdiction of the Department of Public Safety and the Legislative Council.

OPPOSING

LD 578, introduced by state Senator Roger Katz (R-Kennebec), would provide a municipal legislative body with the authority to adopt an ordinance that restricts the carrying of firearms in the municipality's essential municipal offices and places of legislative assembly just as the State imposes those restrictions in its capitol area.

Please call and e-mail members of the Joint Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee TODAY and urge them to SUPPORT LD 35, LD 932, LD 1232 and LD 1347.  Also, please urge the committee to OPPOSE LD 578.  Contact information for the Joint Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee can be found here.
