HSUS Continues to Unfairly Target Breeders in North Carolina!

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

The anti-hunting extremists at the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) have turned up the pressure on the North Carolina House Finance Committee in an effort to pass Senate Bill 460, or another bill to which they can attach its language.  Time continues to run out on their ability to pass this attack on responsible dog breeders, including those that breed dogs for hunting.  While some have tried to claim that hunting dogs will not be affected by this bill, the statement is completely false.  All breeds of dogs will be affected.

There are a handful of legislators on the Finance Committee who have not yet committed to NRA their position on this bill, and they need to be contacted AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and asked to oppose S 460, or any other bill that is designed to impose new, unnecessary restrictions on responsible dog breeders.  Those legislators are:

State Representative Sandra Hughes (D-18)
919-733-5754
[email protected]

State Representative Daniel McComas (R-19)
919-733-5786
[email protected]

State Representative David Lewis (R-53)
919-715-3015
[email protected]

State Representative John Blust (R-62)
919-733-5781
[email protected]

NRA has committed to work with legislators, the American Kennel Club (AKC), the American Veterinary Medical Association, the North Carolina Federation of Dog Clubs, and the North Carolina Sporting Dog Association on language that will only target the small percentage of large-scale problem breeders, while leaving the responsible breeders to continue to operate.  All of these groups remain opposed to the language in S 460.  However, because proponents of S 460 have left NRA and other dog groups out of the legislative process this year, there simply is not time to fix this bad bill.  It is imperative that S 460, or any other commercial dog breeder legislation HSUS has been working on behind the scenes, is defeated this year, so we can take up the issue next year, in an effort to ensure that hunters and responsible dog owners are not unfairly targeted.
