Missouri Governor Traveling The State And Signing Important Pro-Gun Legislation!

Monday, July 2, 2007

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 3, please join Governor Matt Blunt (R), NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox, local elected officials, and fellow NRA members for a bill signing ceremony at several locations around the state!

Governor Blunt will be signing Senate Bill 62, sponsored by Senator Jack Goodman (R-Mt. Vernon) in Joplin, Kirksville, and Cape Girardeau. SB 62, which passed the both chambers of the General Assembly with overwhelming bi-partisan support, establishes that law-abiding Missourians do not have a “duty to retreat” from a criminal attack and may use force to defend themselves, their loved ones and their property. This critical legislation also repeals Missouri’s outdated, redundant and discriminatory “permit to acquire” a handgun statute.

Governor Blunt will also sign Senate Bill 225, sponsored by Senator Bill Stouffer (R-Napton), at the Howell Island Conservation Area located in Chesterfield. SB 225, also referred to as the “Hunting Heritage Protection Areas Act,” will protect much of Missouri’s critical wildlife and hunting habitats by prohibiting certain development within the 100-year flood plains of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. SB 225 also prohibits localities from enacting regulations that ban the discharge of firearms for lawful hunting and sport shooting within the protected areas - thus preserving these vitally important natural resources for current and future generations of hunters and sportsmen.
