A group of four campers were having breakfast in the Tonto National Forest in Arizona, when a mountain lion came upon the camp and attacked one of the camper’s dogs. The campers rushed to the dog’s defense, with one hitting the lion over the head with a skillet until another camper could dispatch the animal with a pistol.
Following the incident, the group notified the Arizona Game and Fish Department, who sent wildlife officials to bring the body to a lab for testing. Tests revealed the mountain lion to be rabid. (Arizona Game and Fish Department, Phoenix, Ariz. 05/09/12)
