An intoxicated criminal attempted to break into the home of 91-year-old Robert Thompson in Lake Worth, Fla. Upon hearing the attempted break-in, Thompson and his dog Rett went to investigate. The pair made their way to the porch, where Rett subdued the burglar. Thompson then raced back inside to call the police and retrieve his gun. As Thompson came back to the porch the burglar got free from Rett and came towards him. Thompson fired a shot, which did not strike the criminal, and then held the intruder until police arrived. This was not Robert Thompson’s first time dealing with a dangerous aggressor; he is a World War II veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart.
