Fifty-seven-year-old Louis Armstrong was climbing from his car in Irvington, N.J., when two men approached him, one of them carrying a gun. As Armstrong reached into his pocket, the armed man fired a shot into Armstrong's chest. Armstrong returned the fire, killing the assailant with a shot to the stomach. While Armstrong had a permit to purchase his handgun, a Browning .25 cal. auto, he failed to have a legal permit to carry it. Nevertheless, it appears that charges will not be pressed against him.
