NRA-ILA GRASSROOTS ALERT: Vol. 19, No. 37 09/14/2012

As Terrorists Murder Americans Overseas, Brady Campaign Not Sure America is Greatest Nation on Earth

If there's one thing Brady Campaign president Dan Gross learned from the days when he worked for an ad agency, it's that you have to tailor your message to your audience. So when Gross was writing his most recent commentary for the America-bashing Huffington Post website, it was only natural that he would try to stir up support for gun control by speaking in terms America-bashers were sure to understand.

So, on Thursday, two days after four Americans--Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service information officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods--were murdered by America-haters in Libya, Gross said that those of us who think that America is the greatest nation on Earth should prove it--by imposing more gun control.

Let the Finger-Pointing Begin

We reported last month that the Department of Justice's Inspector General's draft report on "Operation Fast and Furious" placed most of the blame for the debacle on Phoenix‑based agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and on the Phoenix U.S. Attorney's Office staff.

This week, Fox News reported that it had obtained exclusive portions of the DOJ's IG report that have not yet been made public, and that the documents, while not complete, show that dozens of senior-level U.S. government officials ignored public safety in the deadly "Fast and Furious" gun-walking operation.

Brad Pitt is Pro-Gun?

It is probably safe to say that a majority of Hollywood's stars and A-list actors fall on the anti-gun side of the aisle when it comes to their view of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Historically, not all are anti-gun--Charlton Heston, Tom Selleck, and Chuck Norris, for instance--but a majority are. And for those stars who are pro-gun, openly admitting to that fact these days would bring almost certain disdain and attack from their peers (think Rosie O'Donnell).

It comes as somewhat of a surprise, then, that mega-star Brad Pitt recently had so much to say about the issue of gun ownership, both as an individual right, and as a part of our national identity.

Urge Your U.S. Senators to Support the "Sportsmen's Act of 2012"

In the waning days of the 112th Congress, there is an outside chance that the U.S. Senate could vote on a sportsmen's package--S. 3525, "The Sportsmen's Act of 2012." S. 3525 is an essential piece of legislation focused on the expansion and enhancement of hunting, recreational fishing and shooting on federal public land.

Preparing Today for Success on Election Day! Are You Ready?

The engine that drives the NRA machine is you…and your fellow tens of millions of Second Amendment supporters. The one factor in any campaign that is critical is TIME. Every day we are not working to increase our volunteer ranks is a day lost that we will never get back. As the calendar turns and we get closer to Election Day, things only get more hectic. That is why RIGHT NOW is a great time to ensure you maximize your effectiveness in those crazy days and weeks leading up to Election Day. What should you be doing TODAY to ensure success on November 6? We have some suggestions.

Put Your Support on Display. Order Your NRA-ILA Yard Signs Today!

It has been estimated that well-placed campaign signs can account for four percentage points on Election Day. Think back to the 2000 presidential election, where 537 votes in Florida separated George W. Bush from Al Gore, and four percentage points seems like a landslide!

While you are focused like a laser beam on the November 6 election, some gun owners may not be aware of what's at stake for the future of the Second Amendment on Election Day.
