Two Hunting-Related Bills to be Considered in Connecticut on Monday

The Environment Committee will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 8 at 10:30 A.M. in Room 1D of the Legislative Office Building (LOB) regarding Raised Senate Bill 207 and Raised Senate Bill 274.

SB207 is designed to reduce the recent fee increases associated with hunting and fishing licenses. While in concept, the NRA supports this bill, there are several aspects of this bill that the NRA cannot support. Several different bills were considered in lowering the fee increases and NRA would like you to call and ask the members of the Environment Committee, as well as your State Legislator, to support alternate language to this bill, proposed by The Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen and backed by the NRA. This alternate language would lower the fee increases to only a 25% increase as opposed to the two increases totaling more than 100 percent approved by lawmakers last year.

SB274 would prohibit the "unreasonable" confinement and tethering of dogs. This legislation targets those who own dogs bred or trained for hunting by limiting their ability to kennel, transport, and house dogs bred for the purpose of hunting. NRA strongly opposes this measure.

Please contact the members of the Environment Committee and respectfully urge them to support alternate language to SB207, language proposed by the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsmen and backed by NRA. Also, please ask your State Legislators to oppose SB274.
