Regarding Cass Sunstein…

Friday, September 11, 2009

We have recently received many inquiries regarding the appointment by President Obama of Professor Cass Sunstein to head the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA).

For the record, NRA has long opposed the confirmation of Cass Sunstein.  Early on, NRA expressed concerns about Sunstein’s past anti-gun and anti-hunting statements.

Back in April, NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox sent a letter to Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs, and all other members of the Committee, expressing NRA's serious concern about the Sunstein nomination and attacking Sunstein’s radical record (to read a copy of the letter, please click here).

The Senate confirmed Sunstein as head of the OIRA on Thursday, by a vote of 57-40 following Wednesday’s 63-35 cloture vote
