Accident Statistics

The files below -- for the U.S., the 50 states, and the District of Columbia -- contain annual statistics for total deaths, total accidental deaths, deaths due to various common types of accidents, total homicides, total suicides, and firearm-related deaths (suicides, homicides, and accidents). (Source: National Center for Health Statistics) Included are numbers, rates, and trends (one year to next, and any year to present), and data showing each type of death as a percentage of total and/or total accidental deaths. These data are shown for all ages, ages 0-14 years, and for various age groups between 0-24 years. You can use our Trend Calculator (Excel format) to calculate additional trends.

For your convenience, the statistics are provided in Excel and CSV spreadsheet formats. The CSV files, while usable by any spreadsheet software, do not contain the charts. Also, please be aware that CSV files often automatically place a zero as the second number to the right of the decimal (for example, 5.60), so disregard any such zero you see in these files.

To save a file, right-click on the file name and select "Save Target As". Then select the location where you wish to save the file and click "Save".
