Bloomberg`s Half Truths
07/01/09 - The “off year” gubernatorial election that’s underway in Virginia is traditionally considered a political bellwether for the next regular election cycle. But now, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is trying to transform the Virginia governor’s race into a referendum on gun control.

Bloody Pirates!
07/01/09 - American merchant sailors are now at greater risk of pirate attack than at any time since the presidency of James Madison. While Somali pirates have been getting all of the media attention, pirates also thrive off West Africa, especially near the Niger Delta. Piracy also flourished near the Philippines and Indonesia.

Disarming Citizens: On Land And At Sea
07/01/09 - Recently, demanding a harsh new federal ban on semi-automatic firearms, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell evoked the defining argument of the gun-ban movement--their twisted confusion between good and evil.

"20/20" Turns a Blind Eye on Self-Defense
07/01/09 - As big media mounts an attack on gun owners’ rights, a TV “news” magazine mocks your ability to defend yourself.

The State of Heller
06/09/09 - Does the Second Amendment apply to state and local governments? The Supreme Court has not definitively ruled, but in Nordyke v. King, decided just before this issue of America’s 1st Freedom went to press, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Second Amendment does bind state and local governments. The Ninth Circuit covers the nine westernmost states, including California.

Showing Their True Colors
05/30/09 - Following the election of the most anti-gun president in American history and a Congress led by some of the most extreme anti-gun politicians ever to set foot on Capitol Hill, the most surprising news out of Washington during Obama-Biden’s first 100 days was that gun control was suddenly--and supposedly--not a priority. Make special note of that “supposedly.”

The"Blame America" Beat Goes On
05/30/09 - Last month I reported that the anti-gunners are gearing up to use the crisis in Mexico to advance their agenda. Now, Congress and the Obama administration have jumped into the issue with both feet.

One on One with Chuck Norris
05/26/09 - It was the week before the election of 2008 and the Second Amendment needed some help. Economic bad news was drowning out the key differences between candidates on core Second Amendment issues in some of the nation’s tightest races. The media obsession with the presidential race was diverting voter attention from key congressional contests. Freedom hung in the balance.

In that final, fateful week, one of America’s favorite action heroes stepped up to take command. Screen star Chuck Norris, known to generations of Americans as an icon of toughness, filmed a television ad on behalf of the NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF).

“Some politicians say they support your rights--but their voting records say otherwise,” warned Norris in the ad. “Protect your rights on Election Day--check the candidate’s record, and see who stood up for your family--and who protected the criminals.”

The Pieces Fall Into Place

We Saved A Space For You

Mexico Drug Wars: Will Gun Owners be the Scapegoats?
04/27/09 - As drug-related violence soars on the border, some on both sides are all too ready to blame the Second Amendment.

Courts Clarify Standard for Dealer Violations
04/09/09 - Two federal appeals courts recently handed down important decisions that clarify the standard for revoking a dealer’s federal firearms license (FFL). While the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) can only revoke an FFL for "willful" violations of the law, the batfe has argued that repeated recordkeeping errors are all it takes to prove a "willful" violation. All too often, the courts have agreed.

"Assault Weapons" 2009
03/27/09 - Legislation to require a federal license to possess any detachable-magazine, semi-automatic rifle or shotgun, or any handgun, has been introduced in Congress. Legislation to reimpose the federal “assault weapon” and “large capacity” magazine ban of 1994, or an even broader ban--both introduced in the last two congresses--is sure to follow. And legislation to ban all semi-automatic and pump-action firearms, starting with those that use detachable magazines, has been pro-posed in the past and may not be far behind.

The Coming Storm
03/27/09 - Even before Inauguration Day, the Brady Campaign provided President Barack Obama with a wish list of gun-prohibition measures it’s hoping he will champion in the coming months.

The World According To Cass
03/27/09 - If you’ve followed the opening moves of the new White House, you know that President Barack Obama has staffed his cabinet from top to bottom with some of the most radical anti-gun extremists ever seen in Washington, D.C.

Education at the Extremez
03/27/09 - With President Barack Obama’s Cabinet reading like a “who’s who” of gun-ban advocates, it’s difficult to say which member is the most anti-gun. That is, until you meet Arne Duncan.

Moving Targets
02/19/09 - Every shooter and hunter knows that moving targets are the hardest to hit. Whether it’s a flushing pheasant in a cornfield or a “mover” at a handgun match, a moving target tests your nerves and your skill. Second Amendment litigation is much the same, as some local governments have changed their laws to duck challenges based on the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic Heller decision last summer.

Shes BAAAAACK!
02/19/09 - As a presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton caused a scare for gun owners. Now named Barack Obama’s secretary of state, the Clinton anti-gun nightmare has returned.

Park Raving Mad
02/19/09 - A new order lifting the ban on licensed concealed carry in national parks brings a tremendous outcry from ignorant, gun-hating “mainstream” media sources. Is anyone really surprised?

Standing Guard: Ever Vigilant
02/19/09 - Remember all those phony election stories floated by the media that the gun control issue was irrelevant, that anti-gun rights politicians had seen the light, that gun owners had nothing to worry about? We said they were lies and distortions. Now the Brady Campaign and the big media are proving we were right all along.

President`s Column: Grassroots Activism Is A Powerful Force
02/19/09 - Everyone now knows the danger the Obama-Biden White House poses to the rights of law-abiding gun owners. We watched as President Barack Obama assembled his team from among the most anti-gun zealots to ever hold public office. With Hillary Clinton, Tom Daschle and Eric Holder in the cabinet, and Rahm Emanuel as chief of staff, America’s gun owners know the dangers we face and that our friends in Congress will be mightily challenged in their defense of America’s beloved Second Amendment.

Sword & Tome
01/26/09 - With a new presidential administration that is hostile to private firearm ownership now in office, we`ll likely be hearing a renewed torrent of anti-gun rhetoric coming from all directions. As we prepare for these challenges and arguments, it`s a good time to recall some important quotes that provide a long-term perspective.

The Holder Distortion
01/26/09 - On the heels of naming gun-banner Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff, Barack Obama once again puts the lie to his supposed support of the Second Amendment by selecting former Clintonite and gun-hater Eric Holder as attorney general.

Political Report: Same Anti-Gunners, Different Year
01/26/09 - One of the most stinging blows that Hillary Clinton delivered to Barack Obama's presidential campaign came when she mocked his motto "change you can believe in," by altering it to "change you can Xerox." Now, even as she prepares to join the Obama administration as secretary of state, her criticism is ringing true. Ironically, her own appointment is the most obvious example. Obama is staffing his administration from top to bottom with refugees from the Clinton White House, including two of the most aggressive anti-gun operatives of that era. They, in turn, promise to bring the same approach to the Second Amendment that Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Janet Reno pioneered.

Has Their Time Come?
01/26/09 - Last year, when then-Senator Barack Obama told his adoring faithful, "we are the ones we`ve been waiting for," anti-gun groups must have thought he was talking to them.

Beware the Rahm
12/22/08 - Barack Obama’s children may be getting a new puppy, but American gun owners will soon be the targets of an attack dog named Rahm Emanuel. On Jan. 20, this fierce enemy of the Second Amendment will become the chief of staff to the president of the United States.

Political Report: Election 2008 and the Long Road Ahead
12/22/08 - The 2008 elections are not yet completely over and they may not be for a while. But it’s not too early to thank each and every NRA member for your dedication and hard work.

Standing Guard--Disdain for Freedom
12/22/08 - As Barack Obama takes the reins as U.S. president—bolstered by control of both houses of Congress—the nation’s gun owners, the National Rifle Association, in particular, and our allies in the “new media” will face sustained threats to the free exercise of liberty.

N.C. Gun Stores Beat BATFE
11/21/08 - In an all-too-rare court victory, a pair of North Carolina gun stores has defeated an attempt by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to revoke the stores’ federal dealers’ licenses. The win came in a Sept. 16 opinion by Senior U.S. District Judge Malcolm J. Howard of the Eastern District of North Carolina.

Change . . . For The Worse
11/20/08 - For eight long years, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Janet Reno mocked and attacked gun owners’ rights. Now, despite our hard-fought battles, we are poised to see history repeat itself under a gun-hating Obama-Biden administration.

Big Wins In The States In 2008
11/20/08 - The year 2008 could go down as one of the most important years in our lifetime, as far as the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is concerned. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects an individual right, and that laws banning handguns and prohibiting the use of guns for protection in your home are unconstitutional—a decision that may ultimately have a greater long-term impact on the ownership and use of firearms and ammunition than the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act of 1986 and the now-expired Clinton Gun Ban of 1994 combined.

Poison Pill
11/20/08 - The Supreme Court’s decision overturning the D.C. handgun ban makes it more difficult for gun banners to do their job, at least until an anti-gun rights president is in position to appoint new justices to the court. In the meantime, the prohibitionists are implementing a new strategy—ban as many people as possible from owning guns.

Oklahoma Sportsmen Have Opportunity to Establish National Model
09/16/08 - This past session, legislators in Oklahoma passed legislation by a combined vote of 143-2 allowing Oklahomans to decide whether to adopt a truly meaningful Right-to-Hunt constitutional amendment in November. Over the last five years, NRA-ILA has been leading the effort to adopt these improved amendments, and it is hoped this success in Oklahoma will lead to a wave of meaningful protections in other states as well.

WE`RE BARAAACK! The Billionaire Gun-Banners Who Back Obama`s "Change"
09/11/08 - How Bill Clinton`s point man on gun control, backed by gun-ban king George Soros, is set to play a major role in Barack Obama`s anti-gun plans.

Barack Obama and the Global Gun Banners
09/11/08 - Self-anointed “candidate of change” Barack Obama has earned the support of billionaire socialist George Soros. United Nations officials who, like Soros, sneer at U.S. sovereignty and the Second Amendment rights of ordinary Americans, also cheer his White House bid.

Joe Biden: The Voice Of Anti-Gun Experience
09/05/08 - Last week, we highlighted the enormous differences between vice presidential nominees Sarah Palin (R) and Joe Biden (D).

Sarah Palin and Joe Biden: Worlds Apart
  08/29/08 -

Even before this week, the difference between Barack Obama and John McCain was clear.

Know Your Rights
08/27/08 - As an FFl holder, you have specific legal rights that can help when the ATF comes calling. A time will probably come when you, as a federal firearms licensee, will have interaction with an agent or “investigator” (inspector) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) during either an investigation of a customer or an inspection of your records and inventory. Because your license is your livelihood, you need to know your legal rights.

Post-Heller Junk Science
08/22/08 - The recent Supreme Court decision concerning the Washington, D.C., handgun ban, District of Columbia v. Heller, is a big win for American gun owners because simply banning firearms is no longer an option. Now that an individual right to arms has been confirmed by the Supreme Court, firearm prohibitionists can only accomplish their goal of civilian disarmament by regulating the Second Amendment out of existence.

Standing Guard: The Company He Keeps
08/11/08 - What do a radical South Side Chicago priest who has demanded that law-abiding firearm dealers and state legislators be “snuffed out,” and Chicago’s political boss, who is “livid” and “outraged” over the Supreme Court’s recognition of the Second Amendment, have in common? Influence over Barack Obama.

Hanging by a Thread
08/11/08 - In the U.S. Senate, support for the Second Amendment is razor thin. For that reason, during this election season, your gun rights may very well be hanging by a thread.

VINDICATED!
08/11/08 - By now, virtually all Americans, and millions of other people around the world, know that an important battle has been won in the long term war to protect the right of the people to keep and bear arms. On June 26, in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court stated outright what its previous decisions had recognized implicitly—that the Second Amendment protects “the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation.”

An Army of Lies
08/04/08 - When Wayne Pacelle, head of the anti-hunting Humane Society of the United States, recently wrote a column stating that hunters have more in common with his group than with the National Rifle Association, he told one lie too many, prompting a quick and thorough rebuttal from NRA staffers involved in promoting hunting.

Freedom Unbound!
08/04/08 - In striking down the D.C. gun ban, the U.S. Supreme Court rules that the Second Amendment protects an individual right of all Americans.

Battling Elite Conceit
07/31/08 - In his speech to members at the NRA Annual Meetings in Louisville, NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre warned of the battle ahead to protect the Second Amendment.

Standing Guard: An Individual Right Affirmed
07/31/08 - We start therefore with a strong presumption that the Second Amendment right is exercised individually and belongs to all Americans.” --U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, June 26, 2008.

Obama Wins Delegate Race, But AHSA Endorsement Flames Out
07/28/08 - It was the very last day of the presidential primary season before Barack Obama amassed enough delegates to secure the Democratic nomination. He did not secure this critical mass from delegates won in primary elections and caucuses, but from so-called “superdelegates”—elected officials and other heavy hitters—who rushed to endorse him on the final day. In fact, Hillary Clinton surprised the pundits with a victory in the South Dakota primary on that final day, when many predictions were for Obama to take that state and Montana in a sweep.

America's Worst Gun Laws: Coming Soon to a State Near You
07/28/08 - As you go to the polls in November, remember some of the laws anti-gun politicians think are “reasonable.”

President's Column: Pretenders Dressed as Patriots
06/27/08 - A perfect example of duplicity and deception at work is the so-called American Hunters and Shooters Association (AHSA), which claims to support your Second Amendment rights--yet attacks your NRA and endorses Barack Obama for president.

Political Report: NRA-ILA Wins Court Victories On Two Coasts
06/27/08 - The Supreme Court has handed down its landmark decision in the Heller case, but we must also remember that legal skirmishes over our Second Amendment rights are not limited to the Supreme Court. Before and after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Heller, other cases were playing out across the country, with huge implications for the rights of citizens in those jurisdictions. When the situation demands, NRA-ILA goes beyond legislative and political advocacy to defend the Second Amendment in court.

Standing Guard: Victory in Florida
06/27/08 - Florida firearm owners, led by the unrelenting former NRA President Marion Hammer, have once again preserved armed self-defense, with the enactment of legislation to prohibit anti-gun employers and business owners from banning legal firearms kept out of sight in locked vehicles in parking lots.

Election Preview, 2008
06/23/08 - It’s a major election year. Add to it the election of the leader of the free world, and it seems pretty easy to understand why this election, even more than most, is critically important. But in the context of protecting the Second Amendment, it becomes crystal clear why Election 2008 is one of the most important in our history.

Political Report: Right-to-Carry In Our National Parks
06/23/08 - On April 30, the U.S. Department of Interior, through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, issued a proposed rule to ease the current strict regulations on firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. NRA-ILA led the effort to amend the existing policy regarding the carrying and transportation of firearms on these federal lands. The public has until June 30 to comment on the proposal, and NRA strongly urges members to file comments in support.

The Two Reasons We Must Stop Clinton And Obama
06/23/08 - Gun rights advocates considering skipping this November's presidential election should keep two things in mind--the Supreme Court and the United Nations.

ILA Report: Time for Public to Comment on New Rules for Guns in National Parks
06/23/08 - On April 30, the U.S. Department of Interior, through the National Park Service and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, issued a proposed rule to ease the current strict regulations on firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. AHSA Endorses Barack Obama
05/29/08 - As this unusual campaign season has unfolded, we`ve seen the candidates ratcheting up their politically expedient rhetoric in an attempt to distinguish themselves as the "candidate of choice" for every constituency, while testing the far reaches of credibility in the process. We`ve heard blatantly anti-gun politicians claim to be supportive of the Second Amendment. We`ve seen hypocrisy, and we`ve heard double-speak and insults to our intelligence.

Awaiting a Second Amendment Decision
05/29/08 - The year 2008 will go down as an historic one in America--for the dramatic choices we`ll face in the presidential election, among other things.

Freedom Restored In Florida!
05/29/08 - After sparking America`s Right-to-Carry revolution in 1987 by passing its "shall-issue" carry law, then reinforcing that right in 2005 by passing landmark "Castle Doctrine" legislation, Florida is again leading the nation in securing your Second Amendment rights--this time, by passing a law protecting the right to have a firearm in your vehicle when driving to work, shop, do business or go anywhere you have a right to be.

An Exclusive Interview With John McCain
05/16/08 - To say that the 2008 elections will be crucial for the future of the Second Amendment would be an understatement. Future efforts to preserve our gun rights and our hunting heritage hinge on who will take the helm at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue next January. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre and NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox recently sat down with presumptive Republican nominee Senator John McCain. They asked him some direct questions about his record and his philosophy. Here's what Senator McCain had to say.

Second Amendment Showdown

A Patriot Lays Down His Arms
05/16/08 - he man who brought the heavens down to Earth through the power of his God-given talent is gone away now—gone to join those whom he portrayed with such persuasion. Charlton Heston, actor, advocate for individual rights and voice of reason in a time of turbulent political manipulation, relinquished the power of his rich baritone to the angels and, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, slipped gently into that good night.

Standing Guard: Equality For All
05/16/08 - With the sad passing of Charlton Heston, his lifelong record of courageously fighting for the restoration and preservation of the civil rights of all Americans comes sharply into our hearts and minds. Forty-five years ago, Chuck Heston marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to correct the wrongs of racial segregation--wrongs existing under the cover of unconstitutional state and local laws

President`s Column: A True Threat To Freedom
05/16/08 - Right now, one of the most anti-gun politicians ever to set foot in Washington, D.C., may be just one election away from the Oval Office, and far too few gun owners realize the true threat to freedom this candidate represents.

No Bullets, No Shooting!
04/23/08 - All gun owners are familiar with the 17th century maxim, "Keep your powder dry.” But if we expect to be gun owners in the 21st century, we have to update that to read, “Keep your powder—and all the rest of your ammunition—at all.” That’s because politicians who want to ban guns, but who don’t have the votes in Congress and state legislatures, are trying to achieve the same effect by banning the manufacture, importation, sale and possession of as much ammunition as possible, and severely restricting the rest.

Monks Poached by Peta!
04/16/08 - PETA shuts down a monastery’s 50-year-old egg-producing operation, calling it “hell on earth for chickens.” Yet, PETA slaughtered thousands of pets it collected from animal shelters under the pretense of finding homes for them.

Standing Guard: Barack Obama's Slippery Oratory

Self-Defense is a Basic Human Right
04/03/08 - As the Supreme Court deliberates whether or not the District of Columbia’s 30-year-old gun ban is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment, a deep background look is critical to understanding what is at stake in terms of our personal liberties and the rights that ensure them.

04/03/08 - The man who has cast more anti-gun votes than any other lawmaker in U.S. history has endorsed a candidate for president. On Jan. 28, Sen. Ted Kennedy formally, and to great fanfare, bestowed his political blessing on Sen. Barack Obama.

Time to Stop BATFE Abuses: Congress Pursues Firearm Law Reforms
03/13/08 - Since we last reported on our drive to reform federal firearm laws (“BATFE Hearings Lead to Reform Bills,” June 2006), concern about treatment of firearm dealers by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) continues to rage. In response, members of the U.S. House of Representatives--with NRA-ILA`s full support--have begun to push for new and improved reform legislation.

Mike`s March To The Sea (interrupted)
02/27/08 - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s agents marched across neighboring states with their questionable “sting” tactics, burning legitimate gun dealers as they went. Now, some of those law-abiding gun dealers have filed suit against the gun-banning mayor. Can they really afford to fight city hall--and its resident billionaire?

Political Report: Free Right-to-Carry: Truth Wins More Allies
02/22/08 - osen. They harbor fear of change, fear of the unknown and the strangest of all—fear of their fellow citizens and neighbors. Those who choose to exercise the basic right of self-defense have chosen a life of confidence.

A (Really) Brief History of the "Collective" Right to Keep and Bear Arms
02/22/08 - As the Supreme Court prepares to hear the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, involving the District’s bans on handguns and on self-defense with any firearm, gun prohibition advocates claim that the Second Amendment has no modern relevance because it protects only the “collective right” of state governments to control their own militias, or that it protects only the “narrow individual right” of National Guardsmen who are actively engaged in Guard duty.

Standing Guard: Danger! Gun Free Zone
02/22/08 - When thoughtful people consider the concept of “gun-free zones,” words like “futility” come to mind. But in light of recent horrific events, there is another word that more accurately sums it up: “dangerous.”

Your Vote is Your Voice: Make it Heard!
02/20/08 - With the rise of early and absentee voting, Election Day is no longer a single day, but rather a period that can last for weeks. Voting early or absentee “banks” your vote, freeing you up to help friendly candidates’ campaigns turn out the remaining pro-gun votes on Election Day, when final victory is won.

Backfire in Britain
02/19/08 - Want to see that celebrated British stiff upper lip begin to quiver? Just mention to Parliament or press that England is not the isle of tranquility envisioned more than a century ago, when the nation began the systematic disarmament of its citizens.

The Ten Facts You Need to Know About Heller.
02/08/08 - On November 20, the Supreme Court agreed to hear one of the most important Second Amendment cases in history. The case is a challenge to Washington, D.C. laws that forbid possession of handguns not registered before 1977; forbid possessing any firearm at home if not unloaded and disassembled or secured by a trigger lock; and forbid carrying a handgun, openly or concealed, without a license-even from room to room in the home.

Standing Guard: License For Tyranny
02/08/08 - There is no element in the poisonous alchemy of the globalist gun ban crowd more dangerous to American freedom than the twin evils of gun-owner licensing and firearm registration. Never forget that they exist only as precursors to gun confiscation.

Political Report: The Bloomberg Treatment
02/07/08 - The annals of political history are littered with careers cut short by a reflexive, media-driven embrace of gun control.

The Election Promise Gun Owners Can`t Ignore
02/07/08 - Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton mocks the nation`s 80 million gun owners when she says, "I support the Second Amendment." That cynical pronouncement fits the scripted instructions of former Clinton administration anti- gun activists who preach that to get elected, so-called "progressives" must cloak themselves in Second Amendment rhetoric while pursuing their unchanged anti-gun rights agendas. And it attempts to hide her deep commitment to disarmament of the American people.

Uganda: We`re from the government, and we`re here to help you.

Sliding Down The Slippery Slope
12/19/07 - As California goes, so goes the nation," is a familiar saying in politics. No one hopes more than gun-control extremists that the saying is true. If Congress and other states follow California's increasingly aggressive lead on banning guns and ammunition, and carry it to its extreme conclusion, most or all guns will eventually be illegal to sell, and most or all ammunition will eventually be illegal to shoot.

The Supreme Decision
12/19/07 - The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the D.C. gun ban case, setting the stage for a ruling on the real meaning of the Second Amendment.

One on One with Senator David Vitter
12/15/07 - For over a decade, gun-banners entrenched at the United Nations (UN) have continually leveled attacks against law-abiding Americans' sovereign right to bear arms. Though the NRA has thus far been successful in flanking these efforts, the UN's anti-gun agenda continues. Recently, a pro-gun ally in Congress, U.S. Senator David Vitter, R-La., introduced legislation that would financially paralyze any global organization intent on dismantling the Second Amendment, such as the UN. He recently spoke with Ginny Simone of NRANews.com about this legislation.

Political Report: The 2007 Elections

Voters in eight states have overwhelmingly approved these constitutional amendments since 1996. Vermont, the only other state with a constitutional protection of hunting, has had its provision since 1777.

Political Report: Every Vote Counts
11/16/07 - Every voter who decides the state elections aren’t worth the time will be surrendering the opportunity to help shape the U.S. Senate race in 2008, and maybe even shift control of the Senate itself.

Follow the Money
11/15/07 - Why does a new report from the International Association of Chiefs of Police read like every gun-ban strategy we’ve heard for the last 10 years? To find out, all one has to do is.

Political Report: Why Elections Matter--Wisconsin's Case in Point
11/13/07 - We’ve often written in these pages that elections matter. But often, it’s too easy to look at that statement in the abstract--in terms of inside-the-Beltway political maneuvering and media spin. And that makes it too easy to forget that the outcome of elections affects the freedom--and the lives--of real Americans. This month, I’m going to tell you about one of those Americans.

Poltical Report: Bullying Bloomberg’s Bubble Gets Burst
10/16/07 - Congratulations are due once again to you and your fellow NRA members. When New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg came to Washington, D.C. in an all-out effort to strip the Tiahrt Amendment from a government spending bill, you handed him a crash course in civics--and civility.

Presidential Candidates Ask for NRA Support
  10/10/07 - By Frank Miniter

The scene was common enough in American politics: 500 people seated in a ballroom at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C., television cameras glaring at a podium, and a full cast of 2008 presidential candidates set to speak. Only the event wasn’t common at all. The candidates came to a first-ever symposium where they would affirm their support for the Second Amendment of the Constitution before a crowd of National Rifle Association members. Just a few election cycles ago political pundits might have deemed the event poor presidential politics.

Gag Order
09/04/07 - When the so-called “mainstream” media completely ignore an important firearm study by the FBI, there’s got to be a good reason--doesn’t there?

Standing Guard: A Win For Free Speech
09/04/07 - For all of us who have worked so hard to reshape the federal judiciary, proof positive of our success came this summer with a stunning turnaround by the U.S. Supreme Court in support of First Amendment rights.

Political Report: An Assault on Hunting Equals an Attack on the Second Amendment
09/04/07 - It's no coincidence that the politicians who oppose our Second Amendment freedoms also tend to oppose hunting. Direct, frontal attacks on our gun rights have been rare in the new Congress so far, but our opponents are showing no such caution in launching assaults on our hunting heritage. There are many parallels between congressional action to restrict hunting and firearms, and it is clear to me that in the end, the point of the game is the same.

Would Banning Firearms Reduce Murder and Suicide?
08/28/07 - To research that question, researchers Gary Mauser (left) and Don Kates compiled statistics for the rates of murder and gun ownership for nations stretching from the Baltic to the Mediterranean and the Atlantic to the Pacific.

08/04/07 - When it comes to well-placed fears over widespread errors, civil liberties abuses and injustices involving tens of thousands of innocent Americans whose names have been indelibly added to huge federal "terror watchlists," the mainstream media is on the job, on point. Their concern is well-founded.

Political Report: AHSA and the Tiarht Amendment
07/04/07 - Led by gun-ban lobbyist Robert Ricker and high-dollar underwriter of gun control groups and politicians Ray Schoenke, AHSA was hoping that the thin camouflage of their deceptive name would be enough to blend in. Their goal was to hold a press conference and fool the media into parroting their anti-gun agenda. That agenda, in turn, came straight from anti-gun luminary Mike Bloomberg, mayor of New York City and self-appointed Gun Policy Czar for the nation.

Standing Guard July 2007--"... appropriately suspected ..."
07/04/07 - With the full support of Alberto Gonzales' U.S. Department of Justice, New Jersey U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg is pushing legislation to give the government unprecedented discretionary power to secretly decree that a citizen is banned from owning firearms. The government would need nothing more than a "suspicion" using information it would not have to divulge, ever.

Defending Our Schools
01/11/07 - If you’ve watched any television news at all lately, you know that Americans need to do a better job of defending our children from killers in our schools. Not only is there a risk from lone sociopaths--student or adult--there is also the danger of a terrorist attack since, as the horrible crimes in Beslan, Russia, showed, al Qaeda and its allies know how to target schools and murder children.

Unleashed
01/11/07 - 20/20 hindsight: Looking back in retrospect, if you could have put armed air marshals on those four doomed 9/11 airliners, would you? If you could have arrayed air-defense radars and rockets at Pearl Harbor, would you? Or apathy?

Election Day 2006
11/15/06 - On Election Day 2006, voters took out both frustration and anger on the Republican Party and turned over the levers of power to the Democrats. Importantly, however, on a day that saw an electorate expressing dissatisfaction over such things as conduct of the war, political corruption and competency to govern, Americans cast their votes for pro-gun candidates from both parties. Candidates who championed gun control in contested races were nearly non-existent.

09/22/06 - One of the most pressing issues of our time--prohibiting the confiscation of lawfully owned firearms during times of emergency--is drawing votes of support from politicians with anti-gun voting records that stretch over decades. We’ll take the votes--but we won’t be taken for fools.

Fables, Myths & Other Tall Tales
09/18/06 - "Once upon a time . . . " Sometimes it seems that news reports about guns or gun owners should begin with that phrase. Those four short words would inform readers that while the story to follow will be presented as fact, it is really fiction, or better said, a myth or a fable. Unfortunately, non-truths, through constant repetition, have come to displace facts in the public dialog about guns in America.

Which Freedom Won`t You Surrender
01/20/04 - If you`re not worthy of owning one type of semi-automatic firearm, what makes you worthy of owning any? And if you`re not worthy of one constitutional right, why should you have any? Right now, U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., and Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., are seeking to demolish the Second Amendment rights of all Americans by undermining the rights of a few.

President`s Column-January 2004
01/20/04 - The Clinton semi-automatic gun ban of 1994 has been a decade-long vicious slap at veterans and Americans whose families have served in the military. For more than 200 years American soldiers, sailors and Marines have developed an interest in the rifles, pistols and shotguns involved with their military service. They lived with some of those guns. Some saved their lives. Some were used by their allies or enemies.

The Great Arsenal of Democracy
05/20/03 - Sixty-four years ago, with Europe at war and America on the brink, our inventory of modern small arms was as pathetically short as was the personnel roster of our Army Ordnance Dept. (AOD). That department had the task of procuring and supplying all ordnance to the Army and most of the small arms and ammunition used by all our services plus, as it turned out, much of such material used by our allies.

And Lott doesn`t stop there, noting, "Unfortunately, this bias against guns costs lives."
