Gateway To Success! St. Louis Annual Meetings Shatter Records!

As we reported in the April 13 edition of the Grassroots Alert, the NRA-ILA Grassroots Workshop, held that day in conjunction with NRA’s Annual Meetings & Exhibits in St. Louis, Mo., was a tremendous success, with more than 200 pro-gun patriots in attendance!

The following day, Saturday, April 14, the ILA Grassroots Division rolled out its inaugural special session, called “In Their Own Words.”  The timing couldn’t have been better, as prior to the session, those who attended NRA’s Annual Meeting of Members were treated to rousing speeches by NRA’s officers, and got to participate in conducting the official business of the Association.

The session, moderated by Grassroots Director Glen Caroline, featured some of ILA’s most active volunteers, most of whom serve as EVCs:  Gary Davis (EVC, MO-5); Judi White (Chair, Pima County, Ariz., GOP); Ed Williamson (EVC, TN-2, 3); Joe DeBergalis (EVC, NY-27, 28), and Anne Britton (EVC, AR-3).  All were extremely pleased with the attendance—175 strong—that nearly filled the room to capacity!  Special guest speaker, former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) welcomed the crowd with opening remarks.

Each panelist discussed his/her own experiences at the grassroots level, providing attendees with a mix of legislative and political activism, along with tips on enhancing volunteers’ relationships with their NRA state affiliates.  At the end of each panelist’s presentation, they entertained questions, with this portion occupying most of the session’s time.  A survey of attendees and panelists overwhelmingly indicated their wish for this session to be a staple in future Annual Meetings, and your Grassroots Division plans on complying!

Also worthy of note is the fact that attendance at this year’s Annual Meetings was phenomenal, setting a new record at more than 64,500!  New memberships and membership upgrades set records.  Sales at the NRA Store increased from past years, as did revenues generated from the various fundraising events held in conjunction with the Meetings!

Based on the success we enjoyed in St. Louis this year, we are already excited to head to Louisville, Kentucky for the 2008 Annual Meetings.  We hope to see you there!
