Oklahoma - Voter Registration Information

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age, are residents of the state, and have not been disenfranchised by a felony conviction, are eligible to register to vote in Oklahoma. Residents may register in person at the office of the County Election Board, County Voter Registrar's office, or Department of Motor Vehicles. Mail-in voter registration forms are available at post offices, public libraries, and many state and county offices, such as the County Election Board.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To vote absentee, you must submit a written application for an absentee ballot no later than six days prior to an election. Applications are available from all County Election Boards and from the State Election Board. Your request for an application must include your name, your date of birth, the address at which you're registered, the election for which you are requesting an absentee ballot, the address to which you want the ballot mailed, and your signature. If you receive an absentee ballot by mail, you must also return the completed ballot by mail, before 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Voters may cast an absentee ballot in person at the County Election Board office from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Monday before all elections. For state and federal elections only, in-person absentee voting is available from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. In-person absentee voters must fill out and sign an application form when they arrive to vote.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Oklahoma hosts closed primary elections, which means that only voters who are registered with a particular party can vote in the primary election, and they must vote in the party primary of the party with which they are affiliated. Oklahoma state election law allows the parties hosting primaries to open their primary to unaffiliated voters, but no party has done so yet.
FOR MORE INFORMATION

For additional information on the elections, please contact the Oklahoma State Board of Elections at 405/521-2391. For information on specific party requirements, contact your State Republican Party at 405/528-3501, or your State Democratic Party at 405/239-3366.
