Nebraska - Voter Registration Information

Presidential Primary Election
Democratic - February 9, 2008

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age, are residents of the state, and have no felony convictions, are eligible to register to vote in Nebraska. To register by mail, voter registration application cards are available at public libraries and post offices, in phone books, or through your County Clerk's Office or the Secretary of State's Office. You can also register in person at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To receive an absentee ballot by mail, make a written request to your County Clerk's office no later than the Wednesday before Election Day. Be sure to include in your application your name, address (both where you are registered to vote and where you would like the ballot mailed), your date of birth, and the reason why you need to vote absentee. Also, specify the election in which you wish to vote. In order for your vote to count, your completed ballot must be returned by the closing of the polls on Election Day. You can also vote absentee in person at your local election office, beginning 30 days prior to Election Day.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Nebraska hosts closed primary elections, which means that only voters who are registered with a particular party may vote in the primary election, and they must vote in the primary of the party with which they are affiliated. Unaffiliated voters are eligible to vote in the primary election only for U.S. Senators and Representatives
