Mississippi - Voter Registration Information

VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age, are residents of the state for at least 30 days, and are not disenfranchised by criminal record, are eligible to register to vote in Mississippi. You may register to vote in person or by mail through your County Clerk's office (municipal residents may register with your Municipal Clerk's office) or the Department of Motor Vehicles. Mail-in registration forms are available at public libraries, high schools and at the Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To obtain an absentee voter ballot, you may request an absentee application from your County Clerk's office, usually located in your county courthouse, as early as 45 days prior to an election. Your request must include your name, date of birth, address (both where you are registered to vote and where you would like the ballot mailed), the election in which you wish to vote absentee, and your signature. To make sure your vote counts, return your ballot to the County Clerk's office no later than 5:00 p.m., on the day prior to Election day. You may also vote absentee in person at your County Clerk's office beginning 45 days prior to Election Day.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Mississippi has an open primary system, which means all registered voters may vote in either of the party primaries, but not in more than one. When requesting an absentee ballot for a primary election, be sure to specify the party ballot of your choice.
FOR MORE INFORMATION

For additional information on the elections, please contact the Mississippi Secretary of State Elections Division at 601/576-2550. For information on specific party requirements, contact your State Republican Party at 601/948-5191, or your State Democratic Party at 601/969-2913.
