VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age, have been residents of the state for at least 28 days, have no felony convictions, and have not been judged "mentally incompetent" in a court of law, are eligible to register to vote in Kentucky. To register in person, appear at your County Clerk's office or at the Department of Motor Vehicles. To register by mail, complete and return by mail a voter registration application card, which is available at public schools, offices of public assistance, and many state and county offices, including your County Clerk's office.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To obtain an absentee ballot, appear in person at, write, fax, or call your County Clerk's office. Your request must include: your name, date of birth, address at which you are registered to vote, and address to which you want the absentee ballot mailed. Application for an absentee ballot can be made at any time, but must be made no later than seven (7) days prior to an election.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Kentucky hosts primary closed elections, which means that only voters registered with a particular party can vote in the primary election, and they must vote in the primary of the party with which they are affiliated. Independent voters are ineligible to vote in the primary election.
