VOTER REGISTRATION All U.S. citizens who are at least 18 years of age, have resided in the state for at least 30 days prior to the election, and are not incarcerated under felony conviction, are eligible to register to vote in Indiana. To register by mail, complete and return a voter registration application card, which is available at local libraries, offices of public assistance, many county offices, and the State Board of Elections. You may also register to vote in person at your local Department of Motor Vehicles.
ABSENTEE BALLOTS If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election Day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! Contact your County Clerk to request an absentee ballot. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the close of the polls on Election Day. In certain counties, you may also be eligible to vote absentee in person at your County Clerk's office. Ballots are first made available 30 days prior to an Election Day.
PRIMARY ELECTIONS Indiana hosts an open primary election system, meaning all registered voters may vote in either of the party primaries, but not in more than one. When requesting an absentee ballot for a primary election, specify the party ballot of your choice.
FOR MORE INFORMATION For additional information on the elections, please contact the Indiana Secretary of State at 317/232-6531. For information on specific party requirements, contact your State Republican Party at 317/635-7561, or your State Democratic Party at 800/223-3387.
